What Your Result Means
DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU ARE ON THE PURPOSE TEST
You are currently at the interface of “you love it” and “you are paid for it”, which suggests that you are actively doing something that brings you joy and is obviously working. Hurray!
Since the spheres that you scored significantly lower on are the more worldly, structured ones, traditionally associated with “useful quality work”, it may at times feel as though you just got lucky and don’t really deserve where you are. Know this: The interface of joy and cash is an uncommon one, which is why the typical purpose diagram doesn’t show the overlap of loving it and being paid for it.
Most people who are firmly rooted in joy usually tend to have trouble building financial systems around it, whereas people who are working in a solid money-making structure tend to find it hard to breathe life into it. You have a lot going for you!
Keep reading to see what has held other people back at this stage plus some practical advice for moving forward. Please remember that this test is just a snapshot of your right now and does not attempt to establish any kind of typology. I invite you to read on with a playful, open mindset, which I’m guessing won’t be hard for you.
What’s Holding You Back
MEET YOUR BULLSHIT MONSTERS®
No matter which stage you’re at, we all have a little voice in our heads that tries to keep us safe by keeping us un-extraordinary. I lovingly call this self-deprecating chatter “bullshit” and it’s best dealt with by visualising it as coming from a little monster, a bullshit monster!
People who are in the Win stage might make an acquaintance with monsters from the lethal softies family. These aren’t scary-looking at all, but their aim is the same: to stop you.
Gloria Feelgood
Gloria Feelgood, for instance, applied for the position of patron saint of self-care seventeen years in a row and never got it. She preaches the importance of taking care of yourself, feeling emotions, going with the flow and meditating regularly. She has read all the latest new age self-care advice! She means well – a little too well - and her timing is awful.
Gloria tells you in a soft sweet and lulling voice that it’s absolutely ok for you to go and sit on meditation mountain and contemplate the world for a bit. Her favourite is “what’s easy is good”, and she’ll persuade you to do things that are fake easy (easy but unimportant or easy but cowardly). She’ll have you smudge your entire space with sage rather than write your email. Or take a sabbatical rather than confront a hairy conflict at work. Gloria can be hard to track since she seamlessly weaves herself into your self-care routines and brings up valid arguments in inappropriate situations.
Blockhed
If you do happen to have the audacity of delving too deeply into the land of your BIG dreams and considering how you want to have an impact, you may meet a monster that’s a little more strategically inhibiting. Blockhed for instance, a square thinker who likes assisting people who have just decided they’d like to work more effectively and efficiently. Perhaps you’re trying out a new way of organising your to-do’s or measuring your productivity? Well, then Blockhed is happily at your disposal! He’s just dying to help you optimise your yield.
Unfortunately, in his boxy brain there’s no room for emotion, so he doesn’t understand the importance of humanness or breaks. He’ll identify untapped sources of profit and then milk the cow for more output, making you feel terrible about yourself.
QUESTION TO ASK SOMEONE YOU TRUST:
WHAT DO YOU THINK I’M REALLY GOOD AT?
HOW DO I ALREADY TOUCH OTHERS?
HOW
WOULD YOU SUGGEST I TWEAK MY APPROACH TO AMP MY IMPACT?
What to do?
I firmly believe that there’s a reason you are where you are.
But whether you are underestimating yourself and your impact, or you actually could pivot and shine even brighter, one of the easiest ways of finding that out is to have vulnerable conversations with someone you trust. This way you will find out about the things that you are not seeing, but that are already there. Plus you might actually get some new ideas!
Just so you know, this suggestion isn’t just about gaining an external perspective. People in Win tend to isolate themselves and experiencing a meaningful connection in the work context may be just the medicine you need to go out and become a meaningful expert!
And now what?
Go and be your brilliant purpose-driven self. You are on your path even when it doesn’t feel like it!

Why asking yourself “what’s my purpose?” is one of the most useless ways of going about working with purpose (even if you really want to know)
